Title

RECEIVE AND FILE report on City of Los Angeles Sustainability Plan.

Issue
ISSUE

The City of Los Angeles Sustainability Plan provides a comprehensive blueprint for overall sustainability.  Further, among the Plan’s strategies and priority initiatives, it emphasizes Metro projects and programs.  Staff from the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability will provide a presentation on the plan to the committee and discuss opportunities for collaboration.

Discussion
DISCUSSION

On April 8, 2015, Mayor Eric Garcetti released the “pLAn,” a comprehensive plan for sustainability for the City of Los Angeles.  Notably, the plan established benchmarks and goals for a range of topics affecting overall sustainability for Los Angeles, including sections for environment, economy and equity.  As such, the plan is comparable to Metro’s Countywide Sustainability Planning Policy in that it defines sustainability broadly, and is not limited to environmental issues.

Of particular note for the Committee’s consideration, the plan highlights the role of Metro in achieving or enhancing sustainability in Los Angeles. The plan notes Metro’s leadership in buildout of the transit network.  Further, the “Mobility and Transit” chapter highlights specific efforts of interest to the Committee, including the First/Last Mile Strategic Plan, Regional Bike Share, and completion of the Los Angeles River Bike Path.
