PLANNING AND PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 16, 2019
Preamble
Motion by:
NAJARIAN, DUPONT-WALKER, AND SOLIS
Related to Item 6: Doran Street and Broadway/Brazil Grade Separation Project
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of this project, which addresses desperately needed safety improvements and noise mitigation. The pedestrian element of the improvements will ensure safe crossing eliminating at grade level dangerous rail crossings. The completed project will include a quiet zone, which, when combined with the other 3 zones, will create a sealed corridor. Through public outreach, businesses and local communities have expressed growing concern with noise levels and pedestrian safety posed by 90 trains per day traversing the corridor.
MTA staff has worked extensively with all concerned parties to build consensus for a project that is now ready for a 12-month final design followed by the start of construction.
