Robert "Bob" Bartlett Recognition
WHEREAS Metro policy allows for the honoring of deceased figures who have demonstrated a unique and extraordinary degree of service to public transportation in Los Angeles County; and
WHEREAS Robert "Bob" Bartlett, former Mayor and a life-long resident of the City of Monrovia passed away on October 11, 2015, and it is appropriate to honor him and recognize his outstanding contributions to public transportation at this time; and
WHEREAS Bob Bartlett was first elected to the City Council of Monrovia in 1974 and elected as Mayor in 1988 and served as Mayor until 2001, playing a crucial role in the rebuilding and transforming of the city into the prospering and vibrant city it is today; and
WHEREAS Bob Bartlett's accomplishments have included memberships in the League of California Cities, serving as President of the Los Angeles County Division and the State League; Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) serving as President, the Board of the National League of Cities and Chairman of the that group's Transportation and Infrastructure Committee; the Los Angeles County Sanitation District, and the Independent Cities Association, serving as President; and
WHEREAS Bob Bartlett helped found the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) and was an integral part in the development of Foothill Transit; and he had a major role in the creation of the Transportation Authority, now known as the Foothill Goldline Transportation Authority which brought light rail transit from downtown Los Angeles to the San Gabriel Valley; and
WHEREAS Bob Bartlett served as Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich's alternate on the Metrolink Board; and he worked tirelessly in the creation of the ACE Construction Authority to implement a construction program to mitigate adverse imp...
