Preamble
Amending Motion by:

SOLIS, BARGER, BUTTS, KREKORIAN AND NAJARIAN

Related to Item 33: California High Speed Rail Southern California Segments

On Tuesday, April 16, 2019, the California High-Speed Rail Authority Board of Directors convened to discuss various issues related to the implementation of high-speed rail. At the meeting, staff provided a presentation which highlighted continued investments in the "Valley-to-Valley" segment stretching from the Central Valley to Silicon Valley. This segment has little value for public transportation and limited greenhouse gas reductions with a very high cost of over $24 billion. Regional rail transit improvements in the Los Angeles region would be more cost effective with more substantial mobility benefits and greenhouse gas reductions. Consistent with the Metro Board approved motion made on February 28, 2019 regarding High-Speed Rail, and acknowledging Metro staff's current efforts to compile a list of Los Angeles regional rail priority projects that can be advanced.
