Gender Action Plan Motion

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, it is a moment to once again, recognize and address the unique challenges that women and girls face when navigating Metro’s Transit System. Over the past several years, Metro has established itself as a leader in addressing the transportation needs of women and girls. In September of 2017, Metro created the landmark Women and Girls Governing Council to analyze and advise the ways in which our transit system could better serve our entire community. In 2019, Metro provided a groundbreaking report on “Understanding How Women Travel'' highlighting women’s travel patterns and behaviors as well as the barriers and concerns experienced when riding our system. Metro's significant strides in its commitment to racial and gender equity create a strong foundation for further prioritizing the needs of our most vulnerable riders.

The report has served as a critical resource in developing a Gender Action Plan that will inform how Metro can better implement policies and designs to support gender equity on its system. The Board is eager to see the Gender Action Plan come to the Board for final consideration and approval.
