Metro has prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Eastside Transit Corridor Phase 2 Project (Project) pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) regulations. The Draft EIR will be released for public review on June 30, 2022, followed by a 60-day public review period. Following the review of comments, staff will recommend Board approval in the fall 2022 of a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) from among the three alternatives evaluated in the Draft EIR.

Background
BACKGROUND

The Project is proposed to extend the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) L (Gold) Line, a light rail transit (LRT) line, from its current terminus at the Atlantic Station in the unincorporated community of East Los Angeles to the city of Whittier. It would extend the existing Metro L (Gold) Line approximately 3.2 to 9.0 miles, depending on the Alternative. The project would serve five cities of Commerce, Montebello, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, and Whittier and the communities of unincorporated East Los Angeles and Whittier-Los Nietos.

The Project follows an environmental process defined by state environmental requirements in CEQA. In October 2018, the Board approved a recommendation to restart the environmental studies and clear the Project under CEQA and NEPA and complete and Advanced Conceptual Engineering design (Legistar file #2018-0303).
